CMD 2016.1 New Features Guide

CMD for 2016.1 includes more features finished in the FMX version, along with a brand new feature that allows you to send text messages through CMD.

Included in 2016.1

More Output Forms finished (all but Church Directory, eDirectory, Rotary Cards, and Statistics are finished).

Two items have been added to the Tools Menu:

Church Office Terms

Date Minder

Many refinements in the Enter/Modify/Delete Names dialog flow

Many refinements to the inner workings in Print Names. Also, added a choice to print either individual or family comments using the Comments Only Output Form.

One shortcut has been removed - Ctrl-V no longer brings up the Visitation dialog. This was done as a compromise because the shortcuts work no matter what is on the screen. Using Ctrl-V for the stand-alone Visitation dialog meant that you could not paste any text into your fields using Ctrl-V, which is the standard way of pasting data.

Sending SMS/Text Messages

CMD 2016.1 adds an important new feature that allows you to send a text message to a single person from the Enter/Modify/Delete Names dialog, or to any group in your CMD file by using the Send SMS/Text Message item on the Output Forms menu in Print Names.

In order to send text messages in CMD, you must first sign up for your own account with one of two on-line messaging sources: plivo.com or twilio.com. Once you have obtained your account information after signing up, you enter your AccountSID, Authorization Token, and texting phone number on the SMS Parameters dialog. Once you have done that, you can send text messages from within CMD.

To print a text message to an individual, see Send Text Message to Current Name.

To print a text message from within Print Names, see Send SMS/Text Message.

Note that the text messaging features are only accessible through the FMX version of CMD 2016.

Contact Preference

We've added a field and a place for it on the Enter/Modify/Delete Names dialog which allows you to specify what kind of contact method a person prefers when receiving a notice from the church about upcoming events, newsletters, etc.

It is located just under the Confidential check box for the Cell phone number.

This item has been placed on the dialog, and you may start to make the selections you wish for each name, but its functionality has not yet been implemented. We are hoping to have that in place by 2016.2.
