Mailing Labels

Printing mailing labels in CMD is accomplished by selecting the Mailing Labels option from the Output Forms combo located on the Print Control page of the Print Names dialog.

When you select this option, there are several additional setup choices that must be made. These choices are presented in the area directly under the Output Forms combo, and should be made before you click Begin Printing:

Label Type. There are 3 choices: 2- or 3-up standard mailing labels (Avery #'s 5161/5261 for 2-up, and 5160/5260 for 3-up. There is also a choice for 1-up dot matrix labels. Future versions of CMD will include A4 size labels.

Note that if you intend to print mailing labels with Post Net Bar Codes, you must use 2-up labels because there is not enough physical room to print the bar codes if your zips are 10 digits in length.

Start #. Use this scroll edit to adjust the starting number of the label where printing should begin. This is a convenience feature that allows you to begin printing on a partially-used sheet of labels. The #1 label is at the top of the first column, and counting proceeds downward through the first column, and then proceeds to the top of the next column after the last label in the first column has been counted.

Label Offsets. These options can be used if the labels do not seem to be correctly positioned on your printer. The offset values can move the top and left starting points for the page of labels as necessary to make them fit properly. You may use negative values if you wish. Click the Save button beside the offsets if you make a change that you want to use each time you print labels. The Label Offsets may also be set on the General Preferences dialog, available by clicking the Get Preferences button.

Bulk Mail Preparation. Check this box only if you need to sort your names for simple zip-sorted bulk mailings. CMD does not support bar coded bulk mailings at this time. See Regular Bulk Mail for more information.

One Label per Husband and Wife. Check this box if you suspect there will be a number of labels generated twice because both husband and wife match your selection criteria. Note that others such as minor children, single adults, and partners will always be included. It's only husband and wife combinations that are affected by this choice.

Printing a Label Header using Page Headline Text. Text entered in the Page Headline text box will be printed on the first line of each label as long as you are not printing bar codes. An example of how this might be useful: If you wish to print labels to all the parents of children in a particular SS Class/Division, enter "To the Parents of" in the Page Headline text box. CMD will begin each label’s text with To the Parents of before it prints the actual name and address.
