Pictorial Directory Definition

The Pictorial Directory Definition option on the Utilities Menu provides two functions:

A place to manually enter name text for the pictorial directory output options that will override the automatic formatting done by the program.

A fast and easy way to attach pictures to families for the pictorial directory.

Manually Entering Name Text

To manually enter name text, find and highlight the family name using the search edit box and grid provided. Once the family is highlighted for which you wish to define name text, click in the Family Caption Override edit box. You may enter up to two lines of text. If there are children in the family, you must enter them here as well. Overriding any part of the name overrides all of it, so you’ll need to enter all the names of the family in this text area.

When you are finished entering the text, click the check mark icon of the navigation bar located just on top of the Family Caption Override edit box.

Find and highlight other families and enter their family text as needed.

Attaching pictures

While you may attach pictures in both the Enter/Modify/Delete Names dialog and the Family Name Search dialog, you may find it easier to work with them here.

Use the search tools to highlight the family to which you wish to attach a picture. If you wish to find a picture for that family, click the Find Picture button to locate it. Once it’s visible in the small window, click the Select Picture button to link the picture with the highlighted family. Note that the picture itself is not part of the CMD's actual data files, but rather a link to the picture is stored in the family's data file.

Important!

Make sure that you are familiar with CMD’s rules for importing pictures! Read the Picture Specifications topic BEFORE you begin to import pictures into CMD!
