Scheduling/Calendar

by Rick Labate rickl@pcsda.org

A ministerial director usually has a very full schedule.  Between visiting pastors, conference administration duties, conference events, planning meetings, family time, personal time, exercise, community involvement, vetting and interviewing, communication, networking, visiting churches, etc. the list is an exhaustive one.

Without a constantly updated calendar one can easily miss appointments or over-schedule and find yourself in a position of having to reschedule which if done too often begins to damage one’s credibility.

There are many digital calendar and scheduling tools available.  It is important to find one (such as iCal for example) and enter all appointments immediately when they are created.  Most will not remember to enter an event at a later time.

Also as far as possible a schedule flows best when it is monthly.  Try to schedule pastor visits on a consistent basis whether that is monthly or quarterly or even yearly.  When visiting the churches in your conference keep a list of how often you have been to a particular church to makes sure that no church has been overlooked.

You know your duties and schedule.  If a schedule is important for a pastor it is that much more so for a ministerial director or anyone in a conference position.
