CMD 2015.2 New Features

The new features list for 2014.2 also contains the fixes/updates in 2014.1a.

New Features

New Grid Output Form. This form is the fastest way now to view a list of names. Great when you just need to check over a list quickly. It's fast because it doesn't have to compose things on a printing canvas to be viewed on the screen or printer. It comes up after only a few seconds. This is especially fast when needing to quickly view names when connected remotely.

The CMD Staff Phone app now allows you to update contact information on the fly, immediately sending the new information to the church office computer where it's immediately reflected for all CMD users.

The CMD Staff Tablet app now allows you to update the vast majority of CMD's data fields. It's a simple process to update the fields as desired. Just tap the check box field to change it, edit the fields in edit boxes, or use the drop-down lists to select from a list for those fields. As with the phone apps, the changes you make will be immediately reflected in your CMD data on your church's CMD host computer.

New Optimizations. Some printing operations were quite slow when off-site remote connections were used, especially when multiple selections incorporated data from data tables apart from the main Individuals and FamilyRecords tables. All the query routines have been changed to dramatically increase the speed at which things can be processed and printed. While you won't notice any real difference when printing from the computer that hosts the data or on a computer connected to the church's network, if you are accessing CMD from off-site, the speed increase can be significant. One testing example: Print a mailing label list of about 130 names when multiple selections were used took about 50 seconds in 2014.1. The same list with the same selections in 2014.2 took 8 seconds!

Now the bottleneck is no longer CMD's speed per se, but rather the time needed to construct and paint the printed information for screen or printer viewing. We can't change that part, but the new optimizations have cut down the time greatly for the processing of the data before the printed form starts to take shape. When remotely connected, this was a bottleneck we've long wanted to cure.

This also solves some of the reporting issues we'd need to have solved in preparation for the eventual port to a Mac version of CMD.

Minor Tweaks and Fixes (mostly from 2014.1a)

Changed all the routines in Web Access Setup to be SQL commands and everything is MUCH faster. Will be fast even when triggered remotely.

Fixed a File Store issue occurring only in those instances where coming from CMD 2012.. The issue was that the auto backup dialog was still set to go to the CMD 2013 file store. It has been properly renamed to go to the CMD 2014 file store.

Retooled SnapShot for greatly improved speed. In one user test, while it originally took more than 20 minutes to load the SnapShot page from a remote login, the optimizations in the update loaded in only 11seconds!

Noted that you can only update Church Info information from CMD host computer or server.

Noted that the zip backup only works on the CMD host computer or server (in a setup where you are using the remote database server software).
